Ryan & Nana | Great Fosters Wedding Photography | Surrey

When I think of Nana and Ryan it brings a smile to my face and I’m grateful to be able to call them my friends now.

I first met Nana at a less-than successful wedding fair in the early days of my work. No-one came but Nana was there working for Hotlz at the time. We instantly hit it off as Nana has a bubbly charm that is very endearing. It just goes to show that you should seize every opportunity with a joyful heart and an open mind as you never know where it will lead.

What I love about Nana is her energy and enthusiasm for life. Naturally warm and generous she has been a big advocate of my work and for that I can’t thank her enough. She recommended me to other wonderful couples like Terrence & Elizabeth, before I had even photographed her wedding. That is trust!

Ryan is an absolute gentleman and is the calming influence in their relationship. He is very understated and does not boast about the things he does for anyone. His words on the ‘Staggered’ feature were very moving and show his deep love for Nana.

Their wedding has been covered extensively elsewhere. There is a two part feature on the ‘Bridal Musing’ blog, plus Ryan’s piece on the ‘Staggered’ blog and one in ‘Unique Bride’ magazine. There isn’t much for me to add, so I have just posted their portraits from their glorious Great Fosters Wedding. I hope you enjoy the images.

Nana’s thoughts: WOW! is the only word I can use to describe Alex’s work. The first time I met him and saw his portfolio of work I was impressed, and it helps when the photographer is so friendly. When my partner met him, he told me Alex was so nice and easy to get on with. So it was a done deal. Of all the wedding decisions that had to be made, this was the easiest by far and once we had decided on Alex for our wedding photography we could relax. On the day Alex felt like part of the family, but just had a camera! All the guests loved him and he made us feel so at ease when we did our individual shots. The final result was a collection of fantastic and really memorable high quality wedding photos. I have literally looked at them over 1000 times and won’t stop! Alex you have turned what was an incredible day and captured all the wonderful moments. You truly are the BEST wedding photographer in London, actually the whole world! :-)

Stuart & Emily | Documentary Wedding Photography London

Running my business and photographing weddings has been an amazing journey over the last few years. There have been some bumps in the road along the way, but that road has led me to some fantastic destinations, experiences and people. Wonderful people like David & Eleanor, Leon & Louise, Ali & John to name a few, have believed in me and that has given me the encouragement and self-belief that I am going in the right direction.

On this journey I have been referred to many lovely couples. These couples are like destinations that friends have recommended, knowing you will enjoy them, and I am always so flattered to have been selected to shoot their weddings.

Some couples have found me on Google. For me Google is that road you take, off the beaten track, to explore places that you never knew existed and which, along the way, introduces you to wonderful people that you feel privileged to meet, let alone be asked to join them on one of the most important days of their lives. That is trust.

It is thanks to Google that I met Stuart & Emily. They are two of the kindest and warmest people you could ever come across, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and their guests. They tried hard to create a day that expressed who and what they were really about. I always think that is so important, I so respect and admire couples who keep that as a central focus to their day.

This London wedding started at The Rookery, a quirky little hotel in Farringdon. We moved on to Islington Town Hall which is a beautiful venue to get married and always a favourite of mine. Then they invited guests on a tour around town on two Routemasters, taking in the sights of London and enjoying the beautiful December sunshine. Finally, we arrived at The Prince Albert pub, where a sublime wintery feast with fun and games awaited us!

In Google I Trust. Enjoy.

William & Belinda | Wedding Photography Rutland Water

As a photographer September is probably my favourite month – there is a quality to the light that I just can’t explain. The light we get in the UK is often variable and can be challenging, when compared with other parts of the world, such as the south of France or California.
However, in September, when the conditions are right you get this lovely ethereal light – a photographer’s dream. Luckily for William & Belinda they had one of those days, a wonderful wedding celebration made all the more special by holding the reception at Belinda’s father’s house, with the stunning vista of Rutland Lake as their backdrop. That vista lent the feeling of an epic love story to proceedings – family and friends from around the world had come to celebrate with this over-joyed pair and I was lucky enough to capture the story of the day – I hope you enjoy my images.

Simon & Rehanne Alice in Wonderland Wedding | Wormstall Park House

If grandeur and simplicity can appear in the same sentence to describe a wedding then it would be this one. I have said many times that weddings should be all about the love of the couple, the goodwill of their guests and the continuation of their lives together. This wedding was all of those things, Simon and Rehanne are absolute sweethearts, down to earth yet ever so slightly left-field, and with the beautiful ‘English eccentric’ backdrop of Wormstall Park House and a few amazing vintage cars (I want one!) their wedding was a faultless representation of them. The Alice in Wonderland Wedding theme was very apt given the bride’s love of that story and its subtle execution was down to her skill as an artist. What a pleasure to be around these two and all their friends and family. It’s one of those weddings that I would quite happily photograph all over again.

Terence & Elizabeth | Grove House Wedding | Roehapmton London

Terence & Elizabeth were referred to me by Ryan & Nana which was lovely, as I hadn’t photographed their wedding yet.

These two are so humble and welcoming with so much love in their family. I have since enjoyed their generosity and friendship and got to sample Elizabeth’s amazing cooking skills.

Society today is more culturally diverse than ever before and as a result people are growing up with many more wonderful cultural reference points. Through my work as a wedding photographer I see increasing numbers of couples stepping away from more rigid traditions and instead embracing and celebrating their cultural identities at their weddings. Coming from a multicultural background myself I think it is really important to refer to that on your wedding day.

Terence and Elizabeth celebrated their faith and love at St Paul’s Church before moving on to the splendid Grove House. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two celebrate on their ‘Afro-Anglo’ day and I hope you do too.
