Brighton Bandstand and Knepp Castle Wedding // Sophie & Lynda

Coming from a design background I really wanted to be a part of Sophie and Lynda’s wedding. I was interested to see how two product designers would tackle a day which can be designed so much but which is also very much a personal expression of who you are as people.

Having met them two weeks earlier in Brighton on very stormy seafront I was pleasantly surprised by the weather that greeted us on the wedding day. I tried to capture that nostalgic feeling that only a English seaside town can have as guests started gathering around the bandstand. Sophie arrived first with Lynda following shortly after and it was a very special moment as they saw each other for the first time. Funnily enough it felt strangely private as I photographed it. A very touching outdoor ceremony was proceeded by drinks on the seafront.

We moved on to Knepp Castle where more guest joined them for a lovely woodland reception in a magnificent Tipi by the lake.

When you photograph weddings it is hard to take a step back from the action and appreciate what is really happening in front of you. Sophie and Lynda have a very diverse set of friends and family but there was such a feeling of harmony between them all. I had a moment where I stepped back from the focus and thought the world would be a much better place if everyone was more like these people.

Back to my original questions about how two designers would create a wedding. I think they created a day that transcended the details and careful planning. It became something with a higher energy and I hope the images capture some of it.

Thank you for letting me be a part of it.
